Student Internships

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) offers in-person student internships in our schools, Complex Area Offices, and State Offices. These opportunities provide students with hands-on employability and technical skills across various career fields, including agriculture, business management, construction, culinary arts, digital media, education, and therapeutic services.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Required Age: Must be at least 16 years old.
• Required Enrollment: Must be enrolled in a HIDOE high school as a junior or senior OR enrolled in the Hawaiʻi State Community School for Adults High School Equivalency Program.
• Preferred: Enrolled in a CTE Program of Study aligned with the internship field.

LOCATIONS AND AVAILABILITY

• State & Complex Area Offices, Middle, and Elementary Schools: Open to ALL eligible students across the state.
• High Schools & Community Schools for Adults: Open ONLY to eligible students currently enrolled at that specific school.

APPLICATION PERIODS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027

• School Year Internships
  • Applications Open: September 8, 2026
  • Application Deadline: September 18, 2026
  • Internship Dates: Dates and hours vary by internship from October to May.
• Spring Internships
  • Applications Open: January 5, 2027 
  • Application Deadline: January 15, 2027
  • Internship Dates: Dates and hours vary by internship from February to May.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Search Internship Positions: Review the available opportunities via the links below (available only during open application periods):
   • Explore internships open to all students
   • Explore internships open to eligible students enrolled on the campus where the internships are located
2. Download Application Form: Download the Student Intern Application (PDF).
3. Complete Application Form: Fill out the application completely and save as a PDF.
4. Submit Your Application:
   • Via Email: Send your completed application to the contact person listed in Columns G and H of the position description.
   • In Person: Drop off a hard copy at the address listed in Column C of the position description (or visit your school’s main office).
