The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) state offices, complex area offices, and schools offer in-person student internships to provide students with opportunities to learn employability and technical skills related to their career interests.

Opportunities are available in various career fields, including agriculture, business management, culinary, education, and human performance therapeutic services. The internships are divided into two types:

1. Open to All Eligible Students: Internships located in State and Complex Area Offices or in elementary or middle/intermediate schools are open to all eligible students.
2. Open to School-Specific Students: Internships located on high school campuses are only open to students enrolled in those specific high schools. 

Eligible students must be:

• At least 16 years of age;
• Enrolled in a HIDOE high school as a junior or senior or in a Community School for Adults for School Year Internships;
• Enrolled in a HIDOE high school as a sophomore, junior, or senior or in a Community School for Adults for Summer Internships; and
• Enrolled in a program of study that aligns with the internship (preferred).

If the location is at state offices, complex area offices, elementary schools, and middle/intermediate schools:

2. Complete and save the application.
3. Email the completed application to the contact listed in the position description (Column H).

If the location is at a high school:

Please note: In addition to the eligibility listed above, students applying for an internship at a high school must be enrolled in the same HIDOE public high school as a sophomore*, junior or senior, or in a Community School for Adults, where the internship is located.

• *Sophomores in the Class of 2028 are eligible to apply for Summer Internships if they will be at least 16 years of age on the first day of employment.
