The Department is seeking public comments on its waiver request to extend the period of availability for one of its federal programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
Pursuant to section 8401 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), the Department is requesting a waiver for the period of availability of funds in section 421(b) of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA). Specifically, the Department is requesting a 12-month extension of the 2023 federal fiscal year funds for the following program:
○ Title I, Part C of the ESEA (Migrant Education);
If granted, the waiver will provide the Department with continued flexibility to spend down vital federal funds that will assist the Department’s ability to coordinate innovative approaches to maintain the continuity of learning for all Hawaii public school students.
