The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) offers in-person student internships at state offices, complex area offices, and schools. These opportunities provide students in high school and Community Schools for Adults with employability and technical skills in various career fields, including agriculture, business management, culinary, education, and therapeutic services for human performance.

Important dates

School Year Internships

  • Applications Open: November 12, 2025
  • Application Deadline: November 26, 2025
  • Internship Dates: Dates and hours vary by internship from December 2025 to May 2026.

Summer Internships

  • Applications Open: March 30, 2026 (Check back here to apply)
  • Application Deadline: April 10, 2026
  • Internship Dates: Dates and hours vary by internship from June 2026 to July 2026.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Required Age: At least 16 years of age.
  • School Year Internships: Required to be enrolled in a HIDOE high school as a junior (Class of 2027) or a senior (Class of 2028) or in a Community School for Adults.
  • Summer Internships: Required to be enrolled in a HIDOE high school as a sophomore (Class of 2028) or a junior (Class of 2027) or in a Community School for Adults.
  • Preferred: Enrolled in a program of study that aligns with the internship.

LOCATIONS AND AVAILABILITY

State and Complex Area Offices or Middle and Elementary School Internships

  • Open to all eligible students.

High School or Community School for Adults Internships

  • Open only to students enrolled in the schools where the internship is located.
