ความร่วมมือ

Working together to support our students, the Department collaborates with many community partners, state agencies and higher education institutions on initiatives designed to expand Hawaiʻi’s educational landscape. These programs establish a robust foundation of experiences for students and staff, from career development to artistic endeavors or anywhere in between.

Partnerships for Education

Hawaiʻi P-20

Hawaiʻi P-20 focuses on helping students from preschool through college and career. They work to make sure all students have equal opportunities to be ready for success. Some P-20 initiatives include:

  • Hawai‘i Graduates for Hawai‘i’s Future: Community leaders of the P–20 Council work to align educational programs with workforce needs for economic development in the state.
  • College and Career Pathways: Focused and aligned pathways help students achieve their educational and career aspirations.
  • College and Career Readiness: Programs like GEAR UP Hawaii and FAFSA Cash for College prepare students for the next step.
  • Education Data: P-20 reports provide crucial data so the Department can make informed-decisions to support educational goals for Hawaiʻi.

Partners in Career Readiness

Career Explorer

Run by the University of Hawaiʻi’s community colleges, students from Grade 6 can use the Career Explorer tool to research career pathways to see what classes they should take to pursue certain careers.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

CTE programs help students learn skills for in-demand jobs. The program focuses on liaising with businesses and ensuring workshops and internships are high-quality, and robust.

ClimbHI

ClimbHI enhances workforce development opportunities by building connections between communities, businesses, organizations, and schools.

Partnerships with State Agencies

University of Hawaiʻi System

  • Hawaiʻi Keiki: Healthy and Ready to Learn: A partnership between UH Mānoa Nursing and HIDOE, the program helps schools provide health services to students.
  • Be A Hero, Be A Teacher: A promotional campaign with UH Mānoa’s College of Education to promote the benefits of the teaching profession and to grow the pool of locally based teachers.
  • Teacher Education Coordinating Committee (TECC): TECC is an advisory committee composed of representatives from the HIDOE, UH Mānoa’s College of Education, and the Hawaiʻi Teacher Standards Board to develop aligned and rigorous teacher training programs.
  • Dual Credit: The program allows high school students to earn college credits.

Department of Health

  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division: HIDOE’s school-based behavioral health staff work with this division on any exceptional assistance students may need for their mental health.
  • School Health: HIDOE works in conjunction with the Department of Health to ensure the latest research and guidance are represented in our health, wellness and physical activity standards.
  • Vaccines and Immunizations: The Disease Outbreak Control Division works to ensure students meet all school health requirements and disseminating information on health advisories.

Department of Human Services

Using Temporary Assistance to Needy Families funding, DHS helps HIDOE extend the reach of after-school programs:

  • A+ Program: Tuition subsidies for qualified low-income families enable their children to attend A+ for free. The program provides enrichment and physical activities such as arts, dance, sports and games.
  • UPLINK: This middle school program aims to deter students in this age group from at-risk behaviors. After-school programming can include cooking, music, sports, and multimedia activities with an emphasis on character-building and homework assistance.
