Common ground is emerging<\/strong> in our focus groups: How is Hawai\u2019i unique and special, what strengths can we contribute to the national and global conversation about education, and how do we capture that in our state\u2019s \u6230\u7565\u8a08\u5283<\/a>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n For one third grader who weighed in, learning in Hawai\u02bbi means taking care of our special places. \u201cAll kids in Hawai\u02bbi should be able to know where they come from \u2014 maybe that will inspire them to take care of the beaches and the \u02bbaina. If we don\u2019t take care of it, the whole \u02bbaina would be gone, and we would also be gone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n A high school student reflected on the DOE\u2019s current value statements, saying \u201cI like how they recognize that living in Hawai\u02bbi is different from other states. It is different here. I think it is cool that they want to cultivate that in Hawai\u02bbi, even if you are not from Hawai\u02bbi but you live here now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n How does this translate into the definition of \u201cstudent success\u201d for our state?
