{"id":20928,"date":"2026-07-21T13:59:03","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T23:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/?p=20928"},"modified":"2026-07-21T14:04:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T00:04:14","slug":"2026-kane%ca%bbohe-elementary-named-gold-star-by-national-association-of-elementary-school-principals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/vi\/2026-kane%ca%bbohe-elementary-named-gold-star-by-national-association-of-elementary-school-principals\/","title":{"rendered":"K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary named \u2018Gold Star\u2019 by National Association of Elementary School Principals\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HONOLULU \u2014 The National Association of Elementary School Principals has named K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary a 2026 National Gold Star School<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, an honor recognizing schools that demonstrate excellence in leadership, school culture and student success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This honor is a testament to the strong culture, collaborative leadership and innovative practices that define K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary,&#8221; Hawai\u02bbi State Department of Education Superintendent Keith Hayashi said. &#8220;This recognition reflects the school&#8217;s dedication to student success and the exceptional work of its educators, staff, students, families and community partners. We are proud to see K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary serve as a model for schools across the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the inaugural year of the National Gold Star School program, just 57 schools nationwide were selected, including 47 elementary schools, five middle schools and five K-8 schools, from among 29 states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Gold Star School program recognizes schools that go beyond academic achievement by building strong school cultures, empowering educators and staff, and implementing systems that support long-term success for students. Schools are selected based on evidence of excellence across NAESP&#8217;s three pillars of the principalship:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Established Culture: <\/strong>Fostering shared values, meaningful family engagement and the well-being of students and staff. K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary&#8217;s vision was developed collaboratively with families, staff, community partners and students and continues to guide the school&#8217;s culture and decision-making.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Empowered People: <\/strong>Building collaborative teams, developing leadership at all levels and supporting the whole child. Teacher-led academic and social-emotional learning systems ensure students receive personalized support while fostering a strong sense of belonging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Optimal Systems: <\/strong>Using talent, resources and strategic planning effectively to sustain continuous improvement. Professional learning communities and collaborative instructional planning create a cycle of continuous improvement that strengthens teaching and student achievement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis recognition acknowledges our collective efforts as a school community to accomplish our mission: To inspire all to embrace learning and discover passions with aloha at our core,\u201d K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary Principal Derek Minakami said. \u201cWhile this honor celebrates our progress, it also reinforces our ongoing kuleana to nurture a learning environment where every student feels challenged and valued, every \u02bbohana feels connected and engaged, and every member of our staff feels supported and empowered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a 2026 National Gold Star School<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, K\u0101ne\u02bbohe Elementary&#8217;s exemplary practices will be highlighted by NAESP so educators across the country can learn from and be inspired by its work.
