Service is being restored for approximately 100 student riders enrolled at 10 schools.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents and guardians of student riders will be notified directly of restored routes and any necessary route modifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following school bus routes will resume service, effective Monday, Oct. 14.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hilo-Wai\u0101kea Complex Area: 4 routes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wai\u0101kea Elementary, Wai\u0101kea Intermediate, Wai\u0101kea High &#8211; TR12A\/B<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wai\u0101kea Elementary, Wai\u0101kea Intermediate, Wai\u0101kea High &#8211; TR13A\/B<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ka\u2018\u016b-Kea\u02bbau-P\u0101hoa Complex Area: 3 routes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Kea\u02bbau Middle &#8211; SR23A<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kea\u02bbau Elementary, Kea\u02bbau Middle &#8211; SR27A\/B<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Baldwin-Kekaulike-K\u016blanih\u0101ko\u02bbi-Maui Complex Area: 2 routes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Waihe\u02bbe Elementary, \u02bb\u012aao Intermediate, Baldwin High &#8211; BR12A<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kalama Intermediate, Kekaulike High &#8211; UR19A<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the restoration of the nine routes next Monday, a total of 109 routes will have been restored. Efforts to restore the remaining 29 suspended bus routes are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Oct. 2, Gov. Josh Green extended an\u00a0emergency proclamation\u00a0enabling the Department to continue addressing the school bus driver shortage. The emergency provisions allow the Department to implement alternative transportation methods, such as allowing the temporary use of tour buses to transport regular education students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also allows the Department\u2019s school bus contractor Ground Transport Inc. to place drivers on school buses before they have fully completed their licensing process. Although full licensure \u2014 commercial driver&#8217;s licenses with a \u201cP\u201d endorsement to drive passengers and an additional &#8220;S\u201d endorsement to drive school buses \u2014 is still required for permanent positions, these provisions help speed up the availability of drivers in the short term.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also allows the Department\u2019s school bus contractor Ground Transport Inc. to place drivers on school buses before they have fully completed their licensing process.
