HONOLULU \u2013 The Hawai\u02bbi State Department of Education (HIDOE) has received two grants from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) partnership that will fund initiatives to enhance world language learning at schools in the \u02bbAiea-Moanalua-Radford and Kailua-Kal\u0101heo Complex Areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DoDEA provides quality educational services to military dependents around the globe and works closely with the HIDOE to expand opportunities at Hawai\u02bbi public schools with significant populations of military-dependent students whose parents serve in the various branches of the U.S. military. Since 2008 DoDEA has invested approximately $32.5 million in grant-funded initiatives at Hawai\u02bbi public schools to improve student outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are tremendously grateful for DoDEA\u2019s continuing support and our students are looking forward to new learning opportunities in world languages,\u201d said John Erickson, \u02bbAiea-Moanalua-Radford Complex Area Superintendent. \u201cThe funding will help to hire new language teachers, integrate new technology with real-world learning and provide students with a deeper, more robust, language curriculum throughout our K-12 pipeline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u02bbAiea-Moanalua-Radford Complex Area received a $2 million grant over five years to create a K-12 world language pathway that establishes world language offerings at the elementary and middle levels and promotes high school students to enroll in higher level language courses. The grant will serve \u0100liamanu Elementary, \u0100liamanu Middle, \u02bbAiea Intermediate and Radford High.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kailua-Kal\u0101heo Complex Area received a $1.25 million grant to provide more K-6 military-connected students access to world language instruction in Spanish and Japanese and provide students in the K-12 world language pipeline access to world language programs through out-of-school-time learning experiences. The grant will serve \u02bbAikahi, Kainalu, Keolu, Maunawili and M\u014dkapu elementaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
