{"id":9877,"date":"2023-06-21T16:04:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T02:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/?p=9877"},"modified":"2025-03-24T10:12:51","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T20:12:51","slug":"2023-hidoe-communications-team-recognized-with-national-awards-of-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/sm\/2023-hidoe-communications-team-recognized-with-national-awards-of-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"HIDOE Communications team recognized with national awards of excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hawai\u02bbi State Department of Education\u2019s Communications Branch has received two prestigious awards for excellence from the National School Public Relations Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bThe Hawai\u02bbi State Department of Education\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"\/sm\/ConnectWithUs\/Organization\/Offices\/Superintendent\/CommunicationsBranch\/Pages\/default.html\/\">Lala Fesootaiga<\/a>&nbsp;has received two prestigious awards for excellence from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for its weekly Ho\u02bboha\u02bbaheo newsletter and for its video feature,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/808894942\">A Day In The Life of Dr. Michael Ida<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The projects competed against hundreds of entries from other school districts nationwide in NSPRA\u2019s Publications and Digital Media Excellence Awards, which recognize outstanding education publications, marketing and informational materials, multimedia programs, social media and websites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese award-winning features showcase the student and staff successes happening in our schools and we are tremendously honored for this recognition among our peer districts nationwide,\u201d said Superintendent Keith Hayashi. \u201cOur Communications team works closely with our schools and communities to highlight the achievements happening across our system in support of students, and these national awards help validate this effort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Award of Excellence<\/strong><br><strong>Category: E-Newsletter (External Audience)\u00a0<\/strong><br><strong>Entry:<\/strong>\u00a0HIDOE Ho\u2018oha\u2018aheo Newsletter<br>O le\u00a0<a href=\"\/sm\/VisionForSuccess\/Newsletters\/Hoohaaheo\/Pages\/default.html\/\">Ho&#039;oha&#039;aheo<\/a>\u00a0newsletter aims to live up to the meaning of ha\u2018aheo \u2014 to cherish with pride in Hawaiian \u2014 by bolstering and sustaining pride in public education through stories touting the accomplishments of students and staff. The Communications Branch produces the digital newsletter weekly, except during school intersessions, and distributes it to approximately 39,000 subscribers. Communications specialist Chanel Honda is the newsletter\u2019s managing editor, communications specialist Sara Miyazono is creative director, and communications director Nanea Kalani is executive editor.\u00a0<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Award of Excellence<\/strong><br><strong>Category: Video (Produced In-House)<\/strong><br><strong>Entry:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cA Day In The Life of Dr. Michel Ida &#8211; 2023 Hawai\u2018i State Teacher of the Year\u201d<br>This feature video provides a behind-the-scenes look at a typical day for one of Hawai\u2018i&#8217;s top educators. The team captured in Dr. Ida\u2019s own words what it means to be an educator with a visual disability and how representation played a role in his life. Students and colleagues also share their thoughts on why Dr. Ida is so deserving of the distinguished teacher of the year recognition and how he has made an impact on them and those around them. The video was shared on the Department&#8217;s website and social media platforms and highlighted in internal and external newsletters.
