Poe executive director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hawai\u02bbi State Board of Education has appointed veteran public policy and government affairs leader Capsun M. Poe as its executive director overseeing the planning, coordination, monitoring and improvement of the Board\u2019s operations.\u00a0The state Constitution grants the Board the power to formulate statewide educational policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am excited for this opportunity to empower the Board of Education\u2019s work to lead the public education system through strategic direction, transparent policymaking, effective oversight, comprehensive systems, meaningful engagement, and vigorous advocacy,\u201d said Poe, whose appointment is effective Oct. 3.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this role, Poe will serve as the liaison between the Hawai\u02bbi State Department of Education\u2019s (HIDOE) leadership and Board members for agendas, communications and all other matters. He will assist with the overall coordination and management of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/boe.hawaii.gov\/joint-strategic-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">strategic plan<\/a>\u00a0desired outcomes and managing the policies, procedures and programs between the Board and HIDOE leadership.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poe brings over two decades of leadership experience in education, government and nonprofit institutions in Hawai\u02bbi. He currently serves as the chief advocate and community engagement director at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Prior to OHA, he spearheaded the HIDOE\u2019s governmental affairs efforts as the administrator and legislative coordinator in the department\u2019s Policy, Innovation, Planning &amp; Evaluation Branch.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCapsun\u2019s 20-plus years of experience in policy and advocacy along with his demonstrated commitment to public education make him a strong leader for this role and we look forward to having him be our bridge with stakeholders and the community,\u201d said Hawai\u02bbi Board of Education Chairman Warren Haruki.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poe holds a master\u2019s degree in public administration and a bachelor\u2019s degree in political science from the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa, at which time he also served as the student regent on the university\u2019s Board of Regents.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I look forward to the conversations, partnerships, and work that lies ahead with all who want excellent educational opportunities for our keiki \u2013 especially educators, families, elected officials and advocates,\u201d said Poe.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hawai\u02bbi State Board of Education has appointed veteran public policy and government affairs leader Capsun M.
