Updates will be provided as pertinent information is available.\n<div class=\"article-contents\">\n<div id=\"ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_PageContentRichHtmlField__ControlWrapper_RichHtmlField\" class=\"ms-rtestate-field\" aria-labelledby=\"ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_PageContentRichHtmlField_label\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\nThe Department has been working with environmental consulting company Ford &amp; Associates to conduct bi-weekly wipe tests on floors, window sills and outside walkway surfaces of Lahaina classrooms to detect for lead and arsenic. The lab is able to detect as low as 1 \u03bcg\/sq ft of lead and arsenic.\nNone of the samples taken as of April 2024 have returned results above the analytical methods&#8217; detection limit. However, Hawai\u2018i\u2019s soils do have natural background levels of arsenic so with the highly sensitive 1 \u03bcg\/sq ft detection limit, there is a possibility of future tests reporting background levels.\nThe current EPA clearance standard for lead dust on building surfaces is 10 micrograms per square foot (\u03bcg\/ft2) for floors and 100 \u03bcg\/ft2 for window sills.\n<a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Executive-Summary-HIDOE-Lahaina-Schools-Soil-Sampling-09-2023.pdf\">Lahaina Wipe Test, April 1<\/a>&nbsp;(most recent)\n<ul>\n \t<li><a href=\"\/ja\/ConnectWithUs\/MediaRoom\/PressReleases\/Pages\/maui-schools-wipe-test-archive.aspx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wipe test archives<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Campus Status\u200b<\/h3>\nAs the Department works with other agencies to safely reopen campuses, educational options are available for students and families:&nbsp;<a title=\"Link to Enroll for West Maui Families\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/westmauienroll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/westmauienroll<\/a>.
