{"id":10022,"date":"2023-04-04T13:39:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T23:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/?p=10022"},"modified":"2025-03-24T13:40:34","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T23:40:34","slug":"2023-waipahu-high-hawaii-pacific-health-celebrate-project-blessing-for-future-academic-health-center-on-high-school-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/haw\/2023-waipahu-high-hawaii-pacific-health-celebrate-project-blessing-for-future-academic-health-center-on-high-school-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Waipahu High, Hawai\u2018i Pacific Health celebrate project blessing for future academic health center on high school campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work is underway on&nbsp;an academic health center at Waipahu High School through a partnership with the Hawai\u2018i State Department of Education, Hawai\u2018i Pacific Health Medical Group and Hawai\u2018i 3Rs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The academic health center will provide authentic learning opportunities for students to be industry-ready to fill high skill, living wage jobs in Hawai\u2018i, according to Superintendent Keith Hayashi, who noted it\u2019ll be the first such site on a high school campus in the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cImagine the day one of our students from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.waipahuhigh.org\/apps\/pages\/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1018124&amp;type=d&amp;pREC_ID=1559084\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academy\u00a0of Health &amp;\u00a0Sciences<\/a>\u00a0is a practicing physician on their high school campus, while serving the community where they grew up,&#8221; Waipahu High Principal Zachary Sheets said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once opened, Hawai\u2018i Pacific Health (HPH) will run the clinic and offer medical services for the Waipahu community. Students in Waipahu High&#8217;s Health &amp; Sciences Academy will have the opportunity to get hands-on training ranging from administrative to clinical work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis academic health center will provide access to care for a community with few resources available and provides an excellent training facility for our various health care programs currently at the school,\u201d Carl Hinson, HPH&#8217;s director of workforce development, said. \u201cOur hope is that this brings the Waipahu community an even greater sense of pride in their community and campus as well as serve&nbsp;as an innovative model for other high schools across the state and country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stakeholders and partners gathered at the site for a project blessing on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawai\u2018i 3Rs is leading the construction management of the center. It partnered with G70 to design the floor plan and awarded the construction bid to S&amp;M Sakamoto. The building formerly served as an Adult Education Center at the school.
