{"id":9846,"date":"2023-12-05T15:28:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T01:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/?p=9846"},"modified":"2025-03-24T10:14:59","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T20:14:59","slug":"2023-art-auction-fundraiser-nets-14000-for-lahaina-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/es\/2023-art-auction-fundraiser-nets-14000-for-lahaina-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"La subasta de arte recauda $14.000 para las escuelas de L\u0101hain\u0101"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WAIK\u012aK\u012a\u2014 An art auction featuring pieces from L\u0101hain\u0101luna students, a L\u0101hain\u0101luna teacher and other local professional artists raised $14,000 for the four L\u0101hain\u0101 schools affected by the Aug. 8 wildfires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The auction was a joint effort between the Hawai\u2018i State Department of Education, the Public Schools of Hawai\u2018i Foundation, Island Art Galleries and Maui Hands Gallery. It was organized by L\u0101hain\u0101luna science teacher Judd Levy with help from DOE\u2019s Community Engagement Branch. Levy is also a digital artist with an online gallery who donated several of his original pieces to the auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/islandartgalleries.betterworld.org\/auctions\/aloha-lahaina-art-auction\">auction<\/a>&nbsp;featured 48 original Hawai\u2018i-inspired artworks. Four of the pieces were reserved for an in-person auction, which took place on Dec. 2 at Island Art Galleries in&nbsp;Waik\u012bk\u012b.&nbsp;Eight of the pieces were created by L\u0101hain\u0101luna High School art students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe auction was a huge success,\u201d Levy said. \u201cWe had a wonderful turnout of enthusiastic bidders, both online and in person, who generously supported our cause.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of Levy\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/islandartgalleries.betterworld.org\/auctions\/aloha-lahaina-art-auction\/items\/aloha-lahaina-judd-levy\">original artworks<\/a>, an image featuring two smiling children with lei, was exclusive for the live auction and sold for a winning bid of $1,100.&nbsp;The highest winning bid was for a piece donated by artist Eric Robison at $3,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe live auction was especially thrilling, as we witnessed some fierce competition for the artworks, including those created by our talented students. They were overjoyed to see their creations being appreciated and valued by the audience. It was a truly rewarding experience for them and for me,\u201d said Levy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven L\u0101hain\u0101luna students attended the auction along with Levy, L\u0101hain\u0101luna Principal Richard Carosso, Superintendent Keith Hayashi and Deputy Superintendent Tammi Oyadomari-Chun and&nbsp;L\u0101hain\u0101luna&nbsp;AP art teacher Dan Schultz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so proud of our L\u0101hain\u0101luna students and Mr. Levy for sharing their talents to help benefit the L\u0101hain\u0101 schools,\u201d said Superintendent Hayashi. \u201cAll of the art created by students is so impressive and I hope that the new owners of these pieces will be reminded of the strength and resilience of our L\u0101hain\u0101 students and staff.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WAIK\u012aK\u012a\u2014 An art auction featuring pieces from L\u0101hain\u0101luna students, a L\u0101hain\u0101luna teacher and other local professional artists raised $14,000 for the four L\u0101hain\u0101 schools affected by the Aug. 8 wildfires.
