{"id":10143,"date":"2022-05-27T09:53:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T19:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/?p=10143"},"modified":"2025-03-25T10:51:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T20:51:19","slug":"2022-updated-6-14-82-public-schools-to-offer-summer-meals-to-children-ages-18-and-younger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiipublicschools.org\/es\/2022-updated-6-14-82-public-schools-to-offer-summer-meals-to-children-ages-18-and-younger\/","title":{"rendered":"[Updated 6\/14] 82 public schools to offer summer meals to children ages 18 and younger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning in early June, the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) program will serve meals at select schools Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays, to ensure that children continue to receive balanced nutrition during the summer break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hawai\u02bbi State Department of Education (HIDOE) announced today that 82 public schools will serve meals free of charge over the summer to children ages 18 years and younger, regardless of public school enrollment status, through its summer food service program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning in early June the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) program will serve meals at select schools Monday through Friday, with the exception of June 10 (King Kamehameha Day) and July 4 (Independence Day). SSO is funded by the U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) and was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood nutrition is vital to the health and development of our growing keiki and summer food service programs help to ensure that meals are available for all school-aged children during the summer break,&#8221; Superintendent Keith Hayashi said. &#8220;We encourage our parents to make these meals part of your child&#8217;s summer schedules to give them balanced and nutritious options. We thank our devoted cafeteria staff and administrators and our f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ederal partners for making this program possible each year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las escuelas pueden optar por servir solo desayuno, solo almuerzo o ambas comidas.
